Craps
Craps is probably the fastest paced casino game. It's best to be familiar with the betting options before you get started.

The player rolling the dice is called the "shooter". You can bet with the shooter on the "pass line" or against the shooter on the "don't pass line".

In order to roll the dice, you must have a bet on the line. If you bet with the shooter, then your chips are placed on the pass line. Betting with the shooter means that you'll win if the shooter rolls a 7 or I I on his f'rst roll of the dice. If the shooter rolls a 2, 3 or 12 on his first roll he "craps out" and bets on the pass line lose.

If any other total -- 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 -- turns up, that is the player's point and he must roll that point again, before rolling a 7, to win.

A bet on the don't pass line means that you're playing against the shooter. If the shooter craps out by rolling a 2 or 3 on the first roll, or after establishing his point rolls a 7 before making the point again, then the don't pass line bets win. 12 is a "push", no win, no loss.

After a shooter has established his point you can take odds. In Puerto Rico full odds are paid. An odds bet is made by placing chips behind your bet on the pass line or on the don't pass line.

Different points have different odds. 4 and 10 pay 2 to 1, 5 and 9 pay 3 to 2, 6 and 8 pay 6 to 5. If the shooter makes the point, you will have won more money because you took the odds.

The "come bet'is a wager made after the shooter has established his point. Your "coming out" roll is just like a first roll pass line bet. If a 7 or I 1 turns up on the roll after you have made a come bet, you win; if it's a 2, 3 or 12, you lose.

The "don't come bet" is justthe opposite. On the first roll after you make the bet, you win with 2 or 3 and lose with 7 or I 1. Any other number becomes your don't come point and if it is rolled before a 7, you lose. If a 7 is rolled, you win. A 12 is a push, no win, no loss. When you are making a come or don't come bet you are establishing a separate first roll and point from the shooter's. With a come bet you can also take odds.

Other side bets include playing the "field". The field is a one-roll, even-money bet. You win if any of the following numbers -- 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 or 12 -- is rolled. If double aces (craps 2) or double sixes (craps 12) is rolled, your field bet wins double.

At the center of the table you will find the proposition bets". These can be made at any time the game is in action, and pay much higher odds. Proposition bets include "any craps" 2, 3 or 12, which pays 7 to 1; double aces or double sixes, which pay 30 to 1; eleven and craps, ace-deuce, paying 15 to 1; or seven, paying 4 to 1. These are also one-roll bets.

Proposition bets made on certain doubles are called "hard ways". Hard four (double twos) and hard ten (double fives) pay 7 to 1. Hard eight (double fours) and hard six (double threes) pay 9 to 1. You only lose when a seven or the number you bet on comes up the easy way, meaning without a double. You can also make "horn bets", a combination of four bets: craps two, craps three, craps 12 or II. Different odds are paid depending on what is rolled.
