More Information
Couples are responsible for obtaining a valid marriage license from the State of Georgia, with both the bride and groom present. There is a 24-hour waiting period from the time the license is issued. Georgia does require blood tests for Rubella. The license is good for 30 days, anywhere in Georgia.
- Applicants do not have to be a resident of Georgia. However, if not a resident, you must apply in the county where the marriage is to be performed.
- Two valid forms of I.D. such as driver's license, birth certificate, U. S. passport, Armed Forces ID card, or Resident Alien ID card. Applicants will also be asked to fill out a brief form.
- Either bring your Social Security card or know your Social Security number.
- Fee is approximately $26.00. Some counties will only accept cash.
- Both bride and groom must go in person. If your divorce was finalized within 30 days, bring certified copy of the divorce decree stating the 30-day waiting period is waived.
- If divorced within six months, you will need to show a copy of your divorce decree.
- If you want to use your maiden name on the license bring a certified copy of your birth certificate or a certified copy of your divorce decree that states name is to be changed to maiden name.
- The bride must have a Rubella test. Both the bride and groom must submit a valid blood test on Georgia Form 3411, which must be signed by a licensed physician or the County Health Department. The blood tests are valid for 30 days. Depending on the lab, blood test results may be received from 2 hours to 7 days.
- The bride and groom must each be at least 18 years of age to apply for a marriage license without parental consent.
- There are no residency requirements. The marriage license is valid anywhere in the state of Georgia.
- A divorce decree or death certificate is not required, but a license cannot be obtained before 30 days have passed since a divorce or death.
- Any minister who is authorized by his or her church may perform marriages. Ministers must complete a certificate of marriage and return it to the ordinary within 30 days after the marriage.
