Historic Boston is so rich with things to do that there are too many options to mention them all. But the good news is, since our property is just three miles from downtown, you're closer to many destinations than most of Boston itself. In the area you'll find so many fascinating choices related to our nation's great history. Take time to see the Bunker Hill Monument, the 221-foot obelisk commemorating the first major battle of the American Revolution. Or take a trip to Salem and see a crafty bit of our country's past. In the fall, the whole area is ablaze with color, as the leaves turn. It's absolutely breathtaking – and not to be missed. Sports lovers will want to see the Red Sox, Bruins, Patriots or Celtics play. With history, sports, the arts, and more, Boston and the New England area truly have something to suit every taste. Boston's North End – Little Italy This is the city's oldest neighborhood, where people have lived since 1630. Today, there is lots to see; and with cafes, pubs and restaurants, there are more than 100 places to eat. Built to commemorate a battle between British and patriot forces, this granite obelisk stands 221 feet tall. The Bunker Hill Museum sits right across the street. It's been a marketplace and meeting hall since 1742. Today, there are 49 shops, 18 restaurants and pubs, 35 Colonnade eateries and 44 pushcarts in this lively marketplace. This private Ivy League university is located in Cambridge, Massachusetts and was established in 1636. It"s the oldest institute of higher learning in the United States. Massachusetts Institute of Technology This private research institute is located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. With more than 10,000 students it boasts five schools and one college with a strong emphasis on scientific and technological research. Founded in 1969 on the city's waterfront, it's one of the first modern public aquariums. With more than 600 species and 20,000 animals, the aquarium's emphasis is on a natural setting for aquatic life. It may be most widely known as the site of the witchcraft trials of 1692, but this colorful, coastal city has much to offer both residents and visitors: a diverse population, a rich maritime heritage, an impressive display of historic architecture and amazing stories that span almost four centuries. Also known as Old Iron Sides, this wooden-hulled, US Navy three-masted heavy frigate was named by President George Washington and was built right here in Boston. Launched in 1797, she is the world's oldest floating commissioned naval vessel. Sports & Amusements Don't miss a chance to see this pro hockey team take the ice and fight for the Stanley Cup. Stop by TD Garden for your chance to see the Celtics go for a three pointer. Come visit the home of the world famous Boston Red Sox, and see the guys throw some heat. Cheer as these three-time world champions battle it out on the field. This thoroughbred race track first opened its doors in 1935 and has thrilled spectators ever since. Famous champions that have raced at this track are Seabiscuit, Whirlaway and Cigar. The MassCap with its half million dollar purse is held here annually. Annual Events Every year on the third Monday in April, also known as Patriot's Day, this iconic race is run on Boston streets. It's the world's oldest annual marathon. Boston Pops 4th of July Celebration Held at the Edward A. Hatch Memorial Shell on the Charles River Esplanade, this annual event celebrates our great nation's independence. Enjoy fireworks, music and so much more. New England Sand Sculpting Festival – Revere Beach See the masters do it right each July. It is the largest competition of its kind and draws sculptors from all over the world. A little-known fact: each sculptor is given 10 tons of sand to work with. Mid-September through mid-October is the peak time to see the fall colors in all their blazing glory. Truly awe-inspiring. A month-long celebration in Salem leading up to Halloween. Visit the House of the Seven Gables, the Witch Museum, and so much more. It's the second largest two-day regatta in the world and it attracts more than 300,000 visitors to see 8,900 athletes rowing crew in about 1,750 boats and 56 events.
