Arts & Cultural The Walters family largely amassed the collection's 22,000 objects. The collection presents an overview of world art from pre-dynastic Egypt to 20th-century Europe. Completed in 1821, it shares the same architect as the United States Capital building. With 1.25 million square feet of enclosed space, it's the premier venue for conventions, trade shows, and exhibitions in Maryland. It's just a ten-block walk or one mile from the hotel. This historic seaport is found at the end of the northwest branch of the Patapsco River. The area is home to the Camden Yards Sports Complex, museums, concert halls, shopping, restaurants, and more. A lovely destination during the day or night, it's framed by both the Baltimore skyline and its own parks. Designed by world famous architect I.M. Pei, it's the world's tallest equilateral five-sided building. Its 27th floor observation deck offers spectacular 360° views. Accessible by water taxi from the Inner Harbor, its cobblestone streets are home to a variety of shops, restaurants, coffee bars, music stores, and over 120 pubs. Founded in 1844, it's the oldest cultural institution in Maryland. With collections focused on maritime, 200 years of toys, folk art and more, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Just one block from the hotel. Maryland Institute College of Art Founded in 1826, it's one of the oldest art colleges in the nation. It has just over 1,600 students in their pre-college to MFA programs. Located in Baltimore's Inner Harbor, it includes three levels of exhibits, a planetarium, and observatory. It also has an IMAX theater, two dozen dinosaur skeletons, and so much more. Opened in 1876, it's considered the third oldest zoological park in the country. Today it's home to more than 2,000 animals. It boasts an African Journey, Maryland Wilderness and Polar Bear Watch areas. This aquarium is located in the Inner Harbor area and offers a dolphin display, rooftop rainforest, multistory shark tank, and more. It's home to over 16,000 living specimens. Located just steps from the hotel, this white marble Doric column is the first architectural monument meant to honor President George Washington. And it lights up! Climbing the 228 steps to the top provides an excellent view of the city. Shopping It's the oldest antique district in the United States, dating from the 1840s. This park is home to the Baltimore Orioles and is the first "retro" major league ballpark of its kind.
