Art and Cultural Located in downtown Columbus, it's the home to Grammy-award-winning artists, world-class sporting events, spectacular exhibits, and so much more. Founded in 1953, this museum is one of the largest in the Southeast and is unique for its dual focus on American art and regional history. Enjoy both its permanent collection as well as temporary exhibitions. River Center for the Performing Arts First opened in 2002, this modern complex boasts a number of unique stages. The smallest is the black box, 250-seat Studio Theater. The largest is the three-tiered Bill Heard Theater that has a house capacity of 2,200. The Center has hosted Yo-Yo Ma, Garrison Keillor, the infamous Blanche Dubois, and many more. Built in 1870, this stunning 700-seat space is home to the best in live theater, including Broadway tours and award-winning productions. Some even believe the ghost of Edwin Booth, perhaps the United States' most accomplished Shakespearean actor, haunts it. Points of Interest This 13,000-acre venue is found in the town of Pine Mountain. Beautiful and peaceful, it boasts a greenhouse that changes with the seasons and a huge butterfly habitat. Callaway Gardens is also a bird-of-prey sanctuary, and they feature live shows with these magnificent creatures. In the summer, the beach offers many activities. Last but certainly not least, their adorable chapel is perfect for an intimate family wedding. For centuries the Chattahoochee River has flowed from the mountains of north Georgia to the oyster beds of the Florida Panhandle. Take a leisurely stroll through our city's heritage, a walk that reminds all of what was, what is, and what will be. Columbus Regional Medical Center Columbus Regional has grown to become the area's healthcare leader, offering compassionate care and an unwavering commitment to the residents of the region. Coca Cola Space Science Center This state-of-the-art facility houses the Challenger Learning Center, the Omnisphere Theater and the Mead Observatory. Visit the Plaza area for many interactive exhibits and displays. Founded in 1958 as a junior college, CSU has been a four-year institution since 1965. Today the college has more than 70 programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels. What's more, several of their academic programs have achieved national recognition. Columbus Georgia Convention & Trade Center The Trade Center is located in the historic Columbus Iron Works, which has been painstakingly restored to its Civil War splendor. Today it's a unique setting for large meetings or conferences. Situated on the banks of the Chattahoochee River, the Trade Center is a downtown landmark that's close to both restaurants and entertainment facilities. This 219-bed, full-service facility has full medical and surgical services. It offers business health, cardiac catheterization, emergency services, obstetrics services, outpatient surgery, radiology, rehabilitation services, sleep disorders center and telemetry services. This is Franklin Delano Roosevelt's presidential retreat and museum in Warm Springs, Georgia. He built it in 1932 while governor of New York, just prior to being inaugurated as president in 1933. Roosevelt first came to Warm Springs in 1924, hoping to cure his polio that had struck years earlier. Located in the town of Warm Springs, this park is rooted in the historical era of four-time President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Roosevelt's Civilian Conservation Corps built several structures in the park during the Great Depression. Hikers will enjoy the scenic trails in Georgia's largest state park, especially the Pine Mountain Trail, which winds through a mix of hardwood and pine forests. Established as Camp Benning in 1918, today it's home to the US Army Infantry Center and School, the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation, elements of 75th Ranger Regiment and much more. This self-sustaining military community proudly supports more than 120,000 active-duty military, family members, reserve component soldiers, retirees, and civilian employees on a daily basis. It was the nation's first hospital designed specifically to treat patients with musculoskeletal injuries or disorders. Today, the 100-bed, private room, specialty hospital is nationally recognized for offering outstanding clinical care. National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center Opened in June of 2009, this 190,000-square-foot venue honors the history and bravery of infantry forces in the United States Army. Its signature exhibit is named "The Last 100 Yards," which contains scenes from eight wars with life-like casts of actual soldiers. Admission is free; however, there is a charge for the Imax theater or simulators. This charming town boasts great antiques, FDR State Park, Roosevelt Stables and Callaway Gardens. So take time to shop, ride horses, see the butterflies and so much more. Home to Jimmy Carter, our nation's 39th President. See his boyhood farm, shop for antiques, or just enjoy life at a slower pace. Horse trials, dressage shows, schooling shows, show jumping and all things horse related are found at this renowned venue. Be amazed at Georgia's little Grand Canyon. At its deepest depths hikers may find a thin layer of water along the trail, indicating the water table below. Colorful wildflowers, as well as the pink, orange, red and purple hues of the canyon soil, make a beautiful natural painting in this unique 1,003-acre park. This venue offers such a unique experience – visitors can see, touch, photograph, and feed hundreds of exotic animals. Located along the Chattahoochee River, it's the home of Columbus' entertainment district, specialty shopping, pubs, art, and much more. Shopping This outdoor mall is located in north Columbus and has major stores, small boutiques, and a multi-screen theater for you to enjoy. Sports & Amusement Voted to be one of the nation's top 25 public courses by Golf Digest, Bull Creek gives you a choice of two 18-hole options to play. Donald Ross, the famous golf architect from Scotland, designed this golf course. Small elevated greens and bunkers with rollover edges are some of its most significant characteristics. This is an 18-hole, regulation-length course and driving range built in 1960. The short layout has three sets of tee boxes for a fun but challenging experience. South Commons Softball Complex Some say the facilities at the South Commons are unparalleled in the world of softball. The fact is, the seven fields and stadium field host hundreds of local league competitions. This 31-field complex is home to the Georgia State Soccer Cup. This is the venue to see competitors from under the age of six on up to adults battle it out. |
