Swim with turtles or manatees – here, pleasure comes alive.

While you're staying with us at Viva Wyndham Azteca All-Inclusive Resort, take some time to visit lively Playa del Carmen, Mexico. The area is so rich with exciting things to do that experiencing them all in one trip is nearly impossible. So we hope you'll come back to be our guest again and again. Here, the ways to enjoy the sparking Caribbean are individual as you are. Explore the area's vast reef system with an afternoon of snorkeling or scuba diving. If you want to get up close and personal with some very interesting locals, try swimming with loggerhead sea turtles, manatees or dolphins. Visiting the temples and pyramids built centuries ago by the Maya is an opportunity you just won't find in any other part of the world. And don't miss a chance to see a genuine working lighthouse on the island of Cozumel. Those angling to become a world-class angler will love deep-sea fishing for Blue Marlin and Sailfish. For something totally relaxing, glide along the beach on horseback. And anyone who enjoys the game of golf will love playing 18 holes with the beauty of the Yucatan surrounding you. Of course, you can always pick up something to remind you of your journey when shopping for souvenirs or local handicrafts on 5th Avenue in downtown Playa del Carmen.

Points of Interest

Aviario Xaman-Ha

This beautiful aviary is where you'll find different species, not just birds, but other creatures such as butterflies, iguanas, turtles and various small mammals. The animals that call this place home are in their natural habitat and they live in semi-captivity. You'll see native, threatened and endangered species.

Chichen Itza

Translated it means "at the mouth of the well of Itza." This vast complex was built by the Maya and is the most important archeological site in the Yucatan. See Jaguars Temple, Temple of a 1,000 Warriors, an ancient pyramid, and so much more.

Cozumel's Mayan Ruins

Wonderful ruins for you to explore abound on this tiny island. The largest is San Gervasio, which was first inhabited in 200 A.D. But today, it's divided into four historic districts. Check out a royal castle, known locally as Castillo Real, then see the ruins of El Cedral and El Caracol.

Cozumel's Punta Sur Lighthouse

Visit an old lighthouse and navigation museum displaying the evolution of seamanship from the era of the Maya to modern times. Near the lighthouse, El Caracol is a well-preserved ancient structure, used by the Mayas to signal the approach of hurricanes.

Tulum

This was the site of a pre-Columbian Maya walled city that served as a major port for Coba. It overlooks the Caribbean Sea and is one of the best preserved sites of its kind.

Xcaret Eco Park

This 200-acre park offers nature-based attractions. A river that goes through the Mayan village, a subterranean river where you can swim. Snorkel, swim with the dolphins and so much more.

Xel Ha Eco Park

The park is centered around a natural inlet and lagoon, which is one of the main attractions. The lovely inlet enjoys flow from a river and mixes salt water with fresh underground water currents. Underwater, the limestone has been eroded into a myriad of small caves and grottos to explore. Then take time to swim with the playful manatees.

Sports & Amusement

Beach Rides on Horseback

Horseback riding on the beach here seems to be a scene drawn from a romance novel. On the back of your own steed, enjoy vast stretches of virgin white sand and the bluest water you've ever seen.

Deep Sea Fishing

The Yucatan's experienced boat captains and fisherman will take you for the big game. A great tour for adventurous fishermen to have the chance to catch blue and white marlin, sailfish, dorado, tuna, and more. The prime fishing months are March to July, but there is great fishing all year.

Playacar Club de Golf

This Robert Von Hagge-designed 18-hole course is a 72-par championship golf course. It's built among the lush foliage of the Yucatan, and even has a policy for balls lost in the jungle.

Scuba Diving

The fact is Playa del Carmen is known as one of the best scuba diving locations on the planet. Crystal clear water to explore just makes it that much better. Beginners to advanced divers love it here.

Sea Turtle Snorkeling

Head to the protected blue waters of Akumal Bay, which are inhabited by one of nature's most beloved creatures – the loggerhead sea turtle. You'll have the unique opportunity to snorkel and swim alongside them while admiring their grace and beauty.
