Civil War Battlegrounds

See the sites of 14 major Civil War battlefields. Did you know the city of Winchester changed hands over 70 times over the course of the war?


George Washington's Office Museum

Our first President used a little log building as a military office from September 1755 to December of 1756 while Fort Loudoun was being constructed at the north end of town.


Ghost Tour of Old Winchester

These walking tours take you around several blocks of the historic "Lower Town" section of Harpers Ferry to view a number of sites and buildings that have had ghostly phenomenon reported in, or around them, over the years.

Stonewall Jackson Headquarters

This Hudson River Gothic Revival style house, a Virginia and National Historic Landmark, was used as headquarters by General "Stonewall" Thomas Jackson during the winter of 1861-1862.


Wilson's Wild Animal Park

The 20+ acre park is home to over 200 mammals, birds, and reptiles, which represent more than 50 species of wild animals from all over the world. Feeding of the more gentle creatures, such as deer, sheep and goats, is allowed.

Loudoun Street Pedestrian Mall

Enjoy an eclectic mix of fine shops, galleries, and restaurants in historic Old Town Winchester. The mall is lined with 18th and 19th century buildings.

Virginia National Golf Club

The property offers 18 holes of natural beauty and is the only golf course in America with seven holes set upon the Shenandoah River, providing over three miles of unobstructed river vistas.


Rock Harbor Golf Course

The course is distinct in its abundance of rock, water and orchards. Its elevation variance and course length stretches from the shortest of 3,800 yards to the longest of 7,200 yards.

Hot Air Balloon Wine and Music Festival

For well over 10 years this three-day event has offered breathtaking balloon rides, live music and tasting from area wineries. It's all set against the spectacular backdrop of the Blue Ridge Mountains' brilliant fall foliage.
