What types of transportation are available in The Bahamas?
The islands of the Bahamas - with their close proximity to Florida - are easy to reach by air or by sea. Nassau's harbor alone can accommodate up to six cruise ships! Once you arrive in the islands of the Bahamas, you can use public transportation or rent a car to get around.

TAXI: Getting around Nassau is very easy. Metered taxis are always waiting outside our Resort and at the airport when you arrive for a short 15-minute ride to the Wyndham Nassau Resort. Taxi rates are $15.00 up to two people and $3.00 each additional person. These rates are based upon taxi service from Nassau International Airport to the Wyndham Nassau Resort and on return trip from the Resort to the Airport.

TRAFFIC RULES: The British custom of driving on the LEFT has been practiced in the Bahamas since the advent of the horse and buggy. If you rent a car, most have the steering wheel on the left. Remember to keep left. Seat belts are mandatory.

MOTOR SCOOTER: If you decide to see the island by motor scooter, be sure to get a helmet from the rental agency. It is for your protection and is required by law. If you are walking where there is no sidewalk, face oncoming traffic.

JITNEYS: The JITNEY bus is the island's public transportation service that allows you to enjoy Nassau without the fuss of searching for a parking place, putting many points of interest on the island at your disposal. The bus fare is $1.25 per person, which can take you to locations throughout the island and downtown Nassau for great shopping and... don't forget to visit the Straw Market across from our resort and also downtown, which is the island's largest market to shop. Jitney service is available throughout the day in front of the Resort. The bellstaff will be happy to assist you.

        Services and Policies

        Are gratuities required?
Please feel free to tip according to quality of service. Bellstaff and porters usually receive $1.00 per bag, while food and beverage services receive 15%. NOTE: Most establishments include the gratuity in the bill. Your hotel can advise you about standard applicable gratuity charges applied to group billings.

What is the general check-in and check-out time?
The Wyndham Nassau Resort's check-in time is generally 4:00 p.m. and check-out time is 11:00 a.m. If you are expecting to arrive early - we will be happy to secure your luggage in a safe place until your room is available and a place for you to change if you would like. So...unpack that swim suit, jump into the oceanfront pool or get something to eat in one of our many restaurants - because your fun is about to begin! The same applies with late-departure flights.

What requirements are there for visitors staying 8 months or less?
U.S. visitors staying 8 months or less need to have the following:

        • Return or continuing flight airline tickets
        • Sufficient funds to support the stay.
        • A passport (current or expired within five years)
        • Please note that a voter registration card is no longer accepted as proof of citizenship.
        • Naturalized citizens require naturalization papers and photo identification.
        • Permanent residents require their green card and a valid passport from their place of birth or an official photo identification.
Canadians staying three weeks or less need to show Canadian passport.

Landed immigrants require landed immigrant papers plus valid passports from their home countries.

British nationals visiting the Bahamas do not require visas for visits of up to 3 months.

What requirements are there for visitors staying longer than 8 months?
For stays that exceed eight months, visitors should apply for a visa from the Bahamas Immigration Department. For specific details, please consult your closest Bahamas Consular office. Visitors wishing to extend their stay must apply to the Department of Immigration in Nassau. If employment is intended or the visit is for any reason other than tourism, travelers should seek advice from the Bahamas High Commission in London, (tel: 020 7408 4488).

British nationals traveling to the Bahamas via the U.S.A. (under U.S.A. visa waiver arrangements) who then wish to return to the U.S.A. should seek advice from the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service or any U.S. diplomatic mission if they have any doubt about their U.S. visa status.

NASSAU BAHAMAS: The Bahamas counts as part of the "contiguous territory and islands" for U.S. visa waiver purposes and time spent in the Bahamas counts towards the 90-day maximum permitted stay in the U.S. under this waiver.

        Visitor Information

What type of taxes can I expect to pay in The Bahamas?
The Bahamas DOES NOT have sales tax - so you can catch up on your favorite shopping! However, there are several other taxes of which visitors should be aware. There is a 14% tax on your hotel room rate. It is added to your bill on check-out. Other service charges may apply.

What type of electrical currents are there? Will I need an adapter?
With standard North American 120-volt/60-cycle AC electrical current, you will be able to operate American or Canadian appliances without adapters.

How do I make long distance calls?
The U.S. and Canada are a direct-dial call away and our resort provides direct-dialing service from your room. The Wyndham Nassau Resort & Crystal Palace Casino uses AT&T, MCI and Sprint for domestic and International long-distance services. Rates for international domestic long-distance calls charged to your room are billed at the local telephone rates, plus a 75% hotel surcharge. A service charge of $3.50 applies to all calling card calls. Charges will be added to your folio. Please refer to the telephone book (page 1) in your room for local telephone rates. You have the right to reach other long distance carriers from your in-room phone. You may do so by dialing the access code provided by your carrier.
