Legal Requirements for Weddings

FOR ALL COUPLES

Must be in possession of an original or certified copy of a birth certificate OR passport
Both parties must have photo ID (driver’s license accepted)
Groom must know father’s full name.
Must be a resident of The Bahamas for a minimum of 72 hours.
Must visit the Registrar General to verify that both individuals have been in The Bahamas for 72 hours before they will be married. Immigration card used by Bahamas Customs will provide verification of stay.

IF DIVORCED

If either or both parties are divorced: He/She must be in possession of original or certified copy of divorce decree (must have seal).

IF NEVER MARRIED

American citizens must visit a notary public in The Bahamas to verify that they have never been married. This is done at a cost of $30 per person which is not included in the package prices.
Canadian and other citizens must get a sworn affidavit that they have never been married. They can obtain this in their country or by going to a Bahamas attorney for a fee of up to $30.

REGISTRAR INFORMATION

Marriage License fee: $100
The couple must visit the Registrar’s Office in person to obtain their marriage license.
You cannot obtain a marriage license the same day you arrive on the island. You MUST be on the island for 72 hours.
Guests will be advised of transportation available to the Registrar’s Office during appointment with wedding consultant.
