Submerge into a world of peace, tranquility and indescribable beauty with Viva Diving. If you haven't been diving before, you can take one of our beginner's courses and be beneath the waves in no time at all. Or maybe you have diving experience and would like to improve your PADI rating. Either way, Viva Diving offers the unique opportunity to open doors into this fascinating universe in the deep blue yonder.
- Experienced divers will appreciate the "wall" at Catalina Island, which is one of the few places to see very large fish, like grouper; on a shallower dive off the island you see an abundance of beautiful purple sea fans; orange, brown and gray gardens and a variety of spectacular multi-colored, fluorescent fish.
- Dive or take a glass-bottom boat to visit the sunken St. Georges Barge, which is near our resort; the ship is a protected habitat for endangered coral-reef species.
- Discover craft workshops, artists' studios, galleries and restaurants at Altos de Chavon Artists Village, featuring cobblestone paths, coral stone fountains and terra cotta buildings; the village's 5,000-seat amphi-theater, inaugurated in 1982 by Frank Sinatra, is still attracting big-name performers.
- Visit the island's rich pre-Columbian heritage at the Regional Museum of Archaeology.
- Explore La Romana City, the place to go for restaurants, grocery shopping, local handicrafts and produce.
- Take a pirate boat or catamaran to palm-studded Saona Island for turquoise, green and blue waters, and powder-white sand; the island is a protected sanctuary, and there is abundant wildlife and marine life, such as turtles, whales and sharks.
- Bayahibe Coral Reef has beautiful coral reefs and spectacular tropical fish and is near our resort.
- Ride on horseback at Rancho Capote to Cueva Fun Fun, the largest cave in the Caribbean.
- Tour the lovely botanical garden Plantacion Tropical or The National Park of the East, which is a nature reserve and a major archaeological center.
- Fish the seas to reel in your own barracuda, tuna or dorado.
