“Staff not knowledgeable or proactive”

The hotel is tidy, clean and presentable as you would expect for a new Wyndham in Orange County.In a nutshell: This hotel was part of a room block for a wedding. When booking the wedding website indicated that shuttles were provided (from either the Wyndham or the Westin nearby). Upon checking in I inquired about the shuttles/ I was told by the front desk that he knew nothing about the shuttles and that other guests were taking taxi's. He did not offer me any more guidance or a better solution. After thinking about this more I decided that the hotel should have been proactive (in advance of people arriving for the wedding) and finding out if any special instructions had been given to the guests in regards to the wedding. We found out later that night that we could have easily walked (less than 5 minutes) to the Westin to pick the shuttle up but were simply not told or given directions.We then ordered a taxi. We arrived in the lobby 5 minutes late. There was no taxi. I told the valet we were waiting for a taxi and they said there had been one a couple of minutes ago but it had left. Would it have been too much for someone to call the room and let me know the taxi was waiting? After all I called down from the room and the front desk ordered the taxi for me - surely this level of service is not too much to ask. The valet then ordered me another taxi. A couple minutes later we didn't think that was good enough and found the Director of Sales (name fails me). To his credit he arranged for the hotel shuttle to take us to the wedding and that was very much appreciated. He deserves credit for that.On to the room. It was clean, bed was comfy - all in all very nice. I think we were in room 302. Only problem was we were near the elevator and could hear it traveling up and down the shaft. At 7am after a wedding this was not appreciated at all and certainly if you are a light sleeper do not get the room near the elevator!I completed a comment card. The good news is that I received an email from the assistant front office manager Sloan Sims and he apologized. The bad news is they offered me a discount paid stay back at the hotel. No! That is not what I wanted. To be honest I don't know if I wanted anything apart from to make sure someone understood the experience. Maybe they could have refunded the $17 I paid for parking, I don't know. I replied saying that over a week ago and have not heard back..not surprising.
