“Mixed experience”

  , Jersey City
I stayed here for 6 consecutive nights, the first 2 of which were on my personal reservation and the rest on a corporate reservation. The first night was a disaster, as we were placed in room 345 that was handicap accessible and looked very dated. The bathroom had only a shower with a moldy curtain (no bath tub) and the vanity was in the bedroom which had no closet. In other words, the room was quite different from the description provided to me at the time of making the reservation and the check-in person never made any mention of that while charging my card (effectively a bait and switch). Even worse, the AC kept blowing very cold air and there was no way to control it. I called the front desk asking for a change of room, but they said the hotel was full and they could only send someone to look at the ac. The maintenance guy arrived and said that the thermostats in the room were very old and he could not fix it and not even turn it off. He said they could try to fix it the next morning and so all night we were left with an AC that kept blowing freezing air, which put my toddler in a very dangerous situation. Effectively, I got an old and freezing room that did not match the description promised at reservation for around $200 a night. The next morning, I went to the front desk and met Anthony, who heard my concerns, but did not make any promises about a room change. During the time I was talking to Anthony (who was really the best front desk person I met throughout my stay), Ashley tried to keep interfering in a rather rude way (she was speaking loudly about me to Anthony, while I was standing right there, e.g. "tell him, we can't..."). Ashley displayed a lack of basic manners and I think the room change would not have been possible if I had gone to her instead of Anthony. we had to repack our luggage and leave it in the room before we headed out for the day, in the hope that we would get a room that was functional and clean. I had left my cellphone with a request to call me about the room change- nobody called. When I called at 5, I was told that the room had been changed and the rest of the stay was ok. The staff in general was nice, with Anthony standing out in my experience. I had another unpleasant interaction with Ashley on the final morning thanks to her patronizing tone. Also, internet was really slow and unreliable.
