“Great hotel for pre or post cruise!”

  , Grand Junction, Colorado
We stayed here twice, before and after a Hawaiian cruise. Rate was $108 pre-paid over internet. The first night we were upgraded to a room in the south tower. The hotel is being refurbished after recently being bought by Wyndham. This room had not yet been upgraded. The bed was very comfortable, and the view towards the bay was beautiful. The next morning we were astounded to see our cruise ship docked directly opposite our balcony! Wow! Never mind the tired furnishings and worn out remote control, this was thrilling! We had checked in very late, and the kind lady at the reception desk had asked us if we were going on a cruise. She must have known we would love this experience. We simply rolled our bags across the street to board the ship. Following the cruise we spent an additional two nights in room #948 in the north tower. This room had just been refurbished, and everything from the bathroom tile to the furniture and carpet was brand new. It was noisy during the day due to work on rooms above us, but we were mostly out exploring San Diego. The hotel has a free shuttle that took us to the Zoo, Seaport Village, and would have taken me to the shopping center if there had been time. We saved about $100 in taxi fares. The hotel is located directly across from the harbor, near the Maritime Museum and the USS. Midway. DH spent a whole day there. The concierge at the hotel was very helpful in helping us plan our days. The hop on- hop off tour buss stops across from the hotel entrance. We used room service the first night, and it was expensive, but delicious. We arrived very late, and we were happy it was offered. Later we tried the Elephant and Castle Pub connected with the hotel, and it was just fine. There are no convenient fast food places near here. It's the high rent district! I know that when Wyndham has finished all their renovations, the room rates will go way up, but we were very happy with our stay. I would request a room on the upper floors, due to traffic noise and the nearby train. Since we flew into San Diego for our cruise, we did not need to pay the parking fee for a car. I understand it is pricey. There is a very efficient free shuttle bus that takes you to and from the airport.
