“Nice business hotel”

  , Atlanta
The Wyndham San Diego Bayside is a reasonably priced business hotel with good proximity to the San Diego Convention Center and business district. The rooms are large and provide the basic comforts one expects from mid-priced business hotels today. The room lacks a closet, which was strange (your clothing has to be hung up on a rack in the bathroom). The bed and furniture were new; the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was large and the shower had good water pressure. On two nights of my six-night stay, I did have an issue with noisy neighbors next door, but the front desk/security staff was very nice about dealing with it. Perhaps the walls are a bit thin (many hotels have this issue). The carpeting was old and there were visible stains, but I think they are in the process of replacing it. There was free wireless, which is a great convenience, although I am sure more business hotels are offering this today. My only concerns: My room was in the South Tower, which meant I had to exit the lobby and walk outside down a path near the parking deck, and use my key to get into the building. The doors are automatic and stay open a long time, meaning if anyone from the street nearby wanted to follow me into the building after I had entered with my key access, it would be easy. A few times, other guests (I assume) followed me in after I had opened the door with my key. That doesn't feel very safe, especially if you are a female traveling alone, which I was. The hotel is on North Harbor Drive, which is quite convenient, and there are a few restaurants either at the hotel or across the street. During the day, it's an easy 1-mile walk to the convention center or Gaslamp Quarter, but at night it feels isolated, so for safety one would have to take a taxi. It's a short distance to the Gaslamp, but for some reason two different taxis took me through town on a much longer route, to hike the fare I suppose. The hotel offers a free airport shuttle, which is great.
