“Great location, OLD ROOMS”

  , Tampa
The hotel is perfectly located with a completely private beach. The lobby, restaurant, bars and everything downstairs is very nice and renovated. The problems start when you get in the elevator... The elevators (only 2) are shockingly small. So small that only you and a luggage cart (which by the way, the hotel only has 2 and 1 was broken) can fit in it at a time, not even your spouse, and that's not an exaggeration. The guest floors are all quite old and in serious need of a renovation. The doors to the rooms are old, dark brown steel resembling a public high school. Once you get in the room, which I went ahead and got a King "Panoramic" View room at $400 a night, you realize it also has not been updated in years. The bed and furniture was new and nice, but the closet had a shower curtain instead of a door, and the room was very small and plain. The view was beautiful, but just a normal balcony, not what you would expect for a "Panoramic" view. On a separate note, at about 10 at night, someone from the front desk knocked on my door and said our TV was too loud and there was a complaint from the room next to me... About 30 minutes later he came back up and said the same room complained again about the TV volume, and that if they complained again the police would be called... I turned the TV off and went to bed. Well at about 1 at night, I was woken up by knocking on my door. I got out of bed and opened the door to see two police officers. They said they were called by request of the front desk. I was not making ANY noise sleeping. I have never before in my life experienced something like that at a hotel. I was sleeping when the police were called. The rooms are so small, and apparently the walls are so thin that you can't even watch a movie at night, and if you snore or sneeze you are too loud...Overall though, the staff, on-site food, drinks, private beach and overall service was outstanding. I was honestly quite shocked at how great everything there was downstairs compared to upstairs. It would have been perfectly reasonable if it had not cost $400 a night. I think I would have rated it 5 stars if it was $150 a night with no cops. Once again though, minus the cops being called the staff was truly outstanding. The food was exceptional. The private beach is by far the nicest beach in Clearwater, and the location was perfect. I would absolutely go back again, if they price was 4 times less, or if the rooms, elevators and hallways were renovated...
