“Surprise Construction!!”

When we booked our hotel with the call center we were not told that the Shelborne was under construction. When I confirmed our reservation a week later with the front desk, we again were not informed of construction. This lack of information did not give me the option of not making the reservation. Four Points Sheraton not only told us about their construction but also offered 1 night free with 2 booked nights. I declined that generous offer because I did not want to deal with construction, so I booked the Shelborne knowing that there was no construction. Surprise, there was construction! On our first morning when we wanted to sleep in, hammering woke us up at 7 AM (June 21). What a way to celebrate our wedding anniversary! Twice I complained to two different day managers & they made excuses and did not offer any solution because they said they were sold out. I would have felt a lot better if they had offered something, such as a complimentary dinner in their restaurant, 10% off the room rate or complimentary valet parking, which is $35/day. Nothing at all was offered & I did not want to argue because we were their to relax. Also, it took about 45 minutes in line to check in. The young lady at the computer looked perplexed and the young man at the other computer was dealing with two men for 30 minutes. I timed it with my watch as I waited patiently to check in. No apologies were ever made. One positive is the reimbursement of the daily resort fee of $25. I had not been told about that either so when I called Wyndham Resorts & complained about all this, they forwarded my info to Shelborne resulting in a call telling me I would be credited. I appreciate that.Thank you. I do want to complement several of Shelborne's employees that were kind and helpful. The concierge Rafael Velazques, office worker Claudia, bell hops Isa & Wendy and Crystal the amazing restaurant hostess. They are representative of what the day managers should be. Also, the hall carpets are filthy. It really grossed out my husband & I. I expected cleanliness for a 3 star hotel.
