“Wyndham Gardens, nice setting but problems”

While the setting is very pleasant, a bit off the beaten track, and the accommodations nice there were several problems with the facility and the staff. First of all, we experienced no hot water twice. The second time, I was told "No one else has this problem." Very unprofessional! Secondly, the air conditioning was beyond freezing and impossible to control. There was also a faint mildew smell in the room. My husband and son didn't seem to notice so I did not complain.The room was very close to pool. Perhaps this explained the smell and why none of our clothes ever dried over the course of a week. In preparation for packing the day before we left, I was eager to use the dryer which we had seen in the room with ice machine. I was told it was free. I got all our damp clothes into bags and arrived at the room only to discover that the dryer was not working. I was astounded that the person at the front desk hadn't known this. I wasted 45 minutes dealing with this not to mention the time wasted waiting for the hot water to be fixed prior to this. The workman informed us that they were fixing the boiler to our room and the room upstairs and that we should have been alerted. Yet, no one at the front desk ever offered us any kind of compensation. The other thing that was upsetting was the time it took to get breakfast at the hotel restaurant. We had two orders of fried eggs (simple!) and one order of waffles. It took 45 minutes. There were only 2 other parties in the entire restaurant during this time. By the time the food came, my husband was so annoyed that he insisted they take off the price of one of breakfasts which they did. The waiter was apologetic but had not come over once during the 45 minute wait to refill our coffee or offer any explanation. The price for a simple egg breakfast ($13) was way out of line. The first day, the beach chairs were chained up and there was no one around to unlock them. Finding the marina were the good restaurants were proved to be complicated though it's probably just a couple of miles from the hotel. The hotel needs to provide a much better map of the Palmas del Mar area.
