“just average”

This resort hotel was a strange and mixed bag of "good" and "not impressed". The location is just plain beautiful, and the grounds are very well-kept - lovely. The food in their only restaurant is average and the service is mediocre. If you're accustomed to world class, this place doesn't measure up. The outdoor pools are very nice, but an early morning swim will present you with several dead June bugs floating on the surfaces, with no pool skimmer net in sight for a quick clean up. The conference room was nicely laid out, but severely ice cold. What is the point in that? I like that they have a so-called interest in being green when it comes to housekeeping and whether or not to change the sheets and towels on your bed, but the instructions are ambiguous and the hotel staff evidently doesn't understand them. The first night I was there, when I went to the restaurant and asked for an outdoor table, the "hostess" clearly didn't understand me, and led me to a regular table. She seemed to be a hotel maid who was thrown into the role of restaurant hostess. English was clearly her second language, and not that that's bad, but she didn't understand much of our conversation, which makes for poor customer service. If you're going to use the in-room coffee makers, use half the water they recommend. And buy your own half and half to stow in the little fridge. I called ahead to see if there was a small fridge in the room, and was told no. However, when I got to the room, there was a nice little fridge in there. Evidently, people are not communicating or up to speed on facilities. Shower is OK, but there's no place to put your shampoo and conditioner. Each room has a relatively large balcony. However, there is no screen for the sliding door, so you can't leave it open for fresh air unless you like a room full of June bugs. Silly. The hot tub (indoors) is a welcome wake up for starting the day. On the plus side, this property is about 1 mile from a Fresh Market, so you can go get goodies and put them in your fridge. This place is not awful, by any means, just not much attention to detail or perspective from the customer point of view.
