“Beautiful rooms, some disorganized housekeeping”

  , Seattle
Our family of four (plus a guest, for a total of 5) stayed here in a 2-bedroom ocean-view suite for 2 nights. The suite has a third bedroom with twin beds, but if you use it, the resort charges an extra $30 a day. Having that option is nice, but I'd prefer they only charge for the nights it's used, instead of every night. Seems unfair if you only use it once, but pay for daily housekeeping charges that are never used. The suites are beautiful and modern. Very spacious, an outstanding and complete kitchen (worthy of the "gourmet" title), and a good layout. The bedrooms are separated enough to offer good privacy. The floor-to-ceiling sliding windows and wrap-around lanai is a huge selling point, and we loved leaving them open to keep everything nice and cool. The ocean views, however, were a bit hampered by all the construction going on at the resort. It's not clear how nice our ocean view will be in a few months, but for now, we had to block out the shacks and dirt piles in the foreground to really appreciate it.For as nice as the wall-length sliding doors were, they made a dangerous wind tunnel. The front door would slam quite dangerously whenever it was opened if the sliders were also open. If the air conditioning is on but the sliders are closed, the second bedroom door slams shut, as well. (Our guest couldn't prevent this, even when using all her weight to keep it from happening.) Also when using air conditioning on the auto setting, there were loud rattles and banging sounds that woke us up several times during the night. The lowlight was our arrival. Our room was not ready (fine, since we were an hour early), and the front desk told us it was clean, but needed to be inspected, which would only take a few minutes. Ten minutes later, it still wasn't done. It took two more updates, and 35 minutes before we could get our keys. Had they told us this when we arrived, we would have spent our time enjoying the pool, rather than sitting in the very empty lobby (and noisy, due to the vacuuming). In all, this is a wonderful place to stay, and my family loved it. It's a bit expensive for us to spend an entire week there, and the amenities (a putting green, two pools, a rental shack that we never saw open, and a 24-hour mini-mart that is adequately stocked, but extremely expensive) are a bit sparse. If you are staying near Poipu, don't need a lot of pampering, and the price works for you, Koloa Landing is a very respectable choice.
