“Mixed feelings”

  , Aliso Viejo
The room was beautiful here. We were in a 2 bedroom, 2 1/2 bathroom in Building 3, with a wrap around balcony. We stayed in late August 2013. We were over the main pool with also a view of the ocean, though the ocean is quite far. The 'beach access' is really not a beach, you have to drive to have any sort of beach. The room is completely new, clean, and very impressive. The issue with Koloa Landing, as it seems others have mentioned, is that there is poor service and really no management. One of the main problems we had was with the pool. There is no lifeguard or management of the pool. They leave it up to parents to monitor children with no diving/running, etc, which I'm sure is fine in many cases. We were stuck with a group of families that had children that were screaming, running, jumping off of the rocks in the middle of the pool. This was not surprising, because a few of the parents were smoking in the pool (yes, in the pool) and they had beer bottles in the pool. We complained and nothing was done. We watched as they smoked in the jacuzzi and the people in the beach shack loooked on, because it wasn't their responsibility. In addition to that, our room was cleaned the first 5 days we were there, and then the remaining 3 days it was not cleaned. We had to call down each time, one of which we were able to get someone to come up, the other two we were not. We were told it had something to do with a promotion. That didn't make any sense, as we had cleanings the first 5 days. We had two staff memebers that were outright rude, and another one that was a little strange, promoting his personal business. The final straw was that we were leaving the island the day of the Kauai Marathon. Not ideal timing, but we didn't know that when we booked the trip. I saw the signs early on in our trip so we went into the resort and asked them about the road closures to get back to the airport. They gave us a map to show us how to get around, and we were on our way. The morning we left, we asked again, just to be sure. We left 3 hours early to get to the airport. The person at the front desk told us a different route but said it wouldn't be a problem. Turns out there was no way out of Poipu at that time. The officers we spoke to said EVERY resort knew about this weeks in advance and were supposed to inform their guests. This was a major miss on their part. We called for help and the manager never called back.
