“Trying to vacation in the middle of a war zone”

We booked this trip late last year and the website stated that they were undergoing a $$$Million Dollar renovation of the entire complex from October until March. Since we were visiting the beginning of March we were excited to have a newly renovated Resort with just the tale end of the renovation. The website showed us a fabulous room with a King size bed and new amenities. Imagine our shock when we were put in a room that was in the only wing of the resort that was not in complete destruction - we mean heavy equipment all over! The room had a new mattress, duvet and drapes but was SO old and dormitory/institutional style with an old steel (?) door that wouldn't shut properly and a vent on the side wall of shower that was hooked up directly to the next room. We could see when they had their light on in their bathroom and heard every little word they said (and y0u can imagine, much more) when they were in their room. There wasn't any professional signage to direct you to the pool without being wound around a path of workers installing fencing, or walking over broken glass (yes, true). The staff was untrained and disorganized staff who only added to the confusion. We took our initial complaints to the manager who was pleasant, trying to get us into one of their other resorts but nothing was open anywhere. We spent a day driving all over and calling to try to change hotels but with no luck.This was the worst hotel experience we have ever had and as Wyndham members we felt we deserved better.
