“Last choice when in Indianapolis”

The NRA conference had booked nearly every hotel room in town, so we had a great deal of difficultly locating a room at all for the two nights we needed. I finally found a room at the Wyndham out by the airport. We arrived and the lobby was fine and check-in went smoothly. Our room was a King junior suite - nice and large. Everything seemed fine so we went to dinner. Upon returning to the hotel we realized that not only did the thermostat not work in our room, but it had literally fallen off the wall. The room was hot and stuffy and no windows could be opened. I called the front desk and an "engineer" arrived with a ladder and a floor fan. He acknowledged that some rooms did not have adequate A/C/heat controls and new thermostats were "on order". REALLY? You rent out a room and expect guests to not be able to control the temperature of the room? He could not get our A/C working effectively either, after climbing the ladder and attempting to adjust the controls in the vents. We therefore slept with an old-fashioned floor fan going full blast for the two nights we were at the hotel. No follow-up from management about the problem or even an attempt to move us to a different room. Another disaster was the attempt to get online to check email. After trying to load one page for 20 minutes, we gave up. The next morning, same thing. So, we ended getting to our client's offices an hour before our meetings, just so we could respond to our emails and take care of other business while we were on the road. Finally, the last morning of our stay. our service at breakfast was non-existent, the buffet table lacked water, coffee cups, and other items and when the waiter did stop at our table, he very rudely pushed the bill at us (not asking if we were finished or if he could refill our coffee, etc) and then came by yet again and reminded us that the bill was on our table. The restaurant was practically empty. No one needed our table. Needless to say, we did not leave a tip. THEN he decided to not post our bill and we had to wait another 15 minutes to check out of this dreadful hotel. This resulted in our yet our third attempt to address all the issues with this lousy hotel to the front desk and that person did refund us one room night. Small consolation for a terrible experience. We will not be returning and cannot recommend this hotel to anyone, especially considering all the other fabulous places we have stayed in Indianapolis.
