“Concierge tried to scam us.”

Overall, our actual stay at the Wyndham was relaxing (until after checkout). The bed was extremely comfortable and the bathroom was a good size, however, our A/C unit was on the fritz and worked for a total of 15 minutes in the middle of our stay - the rest of the time, it didn't respond at all, but we didn't complain since we could easily cool down the room by opening the window - the one downfall was it left the room with a musty smell, even after we kept the window open for a while. It would have been nice to have a fridge in the room for our leftovers.Everything was great with hotel staff until after our checkout. Front desk attendants were very friendly and helpful throughout our whole stay, and after checkout we approached concierge for a taxi. My husband and I were heading to my sister's apartment - 4 blocks down and 5 aves over - and requested a taxi for transport. The woman at concierge informed us it would cost $40 to get there. I was flabbergasted - we are not new to taxi prices & the NYC area, so my husband asked how it could possibly be that much. She snidely informed us that it was a private transport service and that even if we took a regular taxi, it would cost us that much to travel there - mind you, we did tell her the exact location of our destination. Ha! Definitely not. We politely informed her that we would not partake in their service; she shrugged her shoulders nonchalantly and looked back down to her desk as if we had been dismissed. We hailed a taxi outside within 10 minutes and made it to my sister's - lo and behold, it cost 8 bucks and some change, a vast difference from her claim of $40.Now, I could understand if she had claimed that because it was a private service, it would cost more than a regular taxi - I wouldn't have used the service, but I could at least understand it. However, she told us that this would be the price regardless of what type of service we took, and that was just plain deceitful, which caused our stay to end on a bad note. Our overall impression would be very different if we hadn't experienced the concierge's lack of customer service, lack of basic manners, and lack of honesty all in a matter of minutes.
