Baton Rouge Plantation Country
Visitors to Baton Rouge can experience the state's deep and colorful history told through the area's historical architecture. Guests can embark on a tour through elaborate and beautiful antebellum mansions to experience what life was like at these domestic centers of massive cotton, sugar cane and rice plantations. Well-known antebellum homes and plantation homes include The Myrtles Plantation, Nottoway Plantation and Magnolia Mound, to name a few.
Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center
Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center is a 103-acre facility dedicated to conservation, education, recreation and tourism. The facility is home to a 9,500-square-foot building containing live animal exhibits, natural artifact and mineral displays and a vintage waterfowl decoy carving collection. Over a mile of gravel paths link varied habitats, with plenty of opportunities to view wildlife such as birds, snakes, turtles, deer and armadillos.
Louisiana Governor's Mansion
The Louisiana Governor's Mansion is the official residence of the Governor of Louisiana, and is open to the public for tours by appointment only. The mansion sites on eight acres of land with grounds that include a tennis court, swimming pool, vegetable garden and fountain area.
Louisiana State Capitol
This National Historic Landmark is open daily, with free admission. The capitol houses the Louisiana State Legislature, the governor's office and parts of the executive branch, standing 450 feet tall as the tallest capitol building in the United States with capitol gardens as well.
