“New Yorker Suite - family of 5 - great vacation”

  , Markham
We were a party of five - 2 adults, 3 kids (15, 13, 11). We booked the New Yorker Suite which sleeps up to 6 w/ 2 doubles in the bedroom and a sofa bed in the living room. Our suite was SPACIOUS. The hotel has many types of rooms (browse through them on their website) hence you'll find reviews here complaining of rooms that were too small - we walked past some of those while they were being cleaned - yes some were incredibly small. Our room was on a floor above 20 (2X30) and it was a corner suite - w/ great views of Empire State building & Madison Square Gardens, and high enough to experience minimal street noise. The living room had the sofa bed (quite comfy - we brought an egg crate mattress pad just to be sure), a flat screen TV on a dresser, a work desk, a large dining table w/ 6 chairs (very handy as we all sat around it at the end of the day & kept snacks & various papers, etc on it), and a bar fridge. There were many electrical outlets. The bathroom was small, and as others have noted, ancient. The tiles were quite old. There was no vanity under the sink (we came prepared w/ our own storage crate). Hot water was plenty though - most of us showered before bed but no one experienced any issues w/ hot water shortage. The toilet bowl is newer, and flushes very well. Not sure why the hotel had not renovated their bathrooms, but despite it being dated, it is VERY CLEAN, like the rest of the suite. The bedroom is spacious w/ 2 doubles, a dresser, a flat screen TV (which does not tilt so only one of the beds can see it), and a walk-in closet w/ a safe bolted in. There is separate temperature control for the bedroom, and again many electrical outlets. The decor is 30s art deco style, which was just fine with us. Wifi - there were 2 services available - complimentary & premium (supposedly faster and costs $). We all used complimentary and again it was fine (i can VPN to work).Location - perfect , on the ACE subway lines and train lines w/ lots of fast food options & souvenir shops around. Macy's & many fashion places within walking distance. We valet parked our van ($43/day) and subway'd everywhere. We felt safe all the time.Breakfast - the New Yorker Suite comes w/ complimentary continental breakfast for each paid adult in the Tick Tock Diner. Upon check in we were upgraded to breakfast in the sky lounge (39th floor) for all 5 of us. The lounge had the same view as our suite but higher up so we could also see the Statue of Liberty!
