“Ruined our 1 year anniversary”

The grounds and beach were beautiful and well kept, but that is where the positives end. Long story short: staying at this hotel ruined our 1 year anniversary vacation due to service that was so bad it compelled to me to write my first negative review.We waited in long lines to check in. Our room was "renovated," which means they changed SOME of the furniture. It was still musty with poor decorations, old bathroom fixtures with leaking toilet, occasional hot water and a "resort" view which faced the outside wall of the conference center that was 50 ft away (avoid room 2139).On the day of our 1 year anniversary, we had to call FIVE TIMES to get our room cleaned.... FIVE!!! We did have the do not disturb sign on at 12:30pm (while we were still in the room), but took it off and called for room cleaning when we left for the day. Came back to a dirty room and called the front desk at 2pm, 8pm and 11pm after our special dinner (more on that later). When we called at 11pm, we were told someone would come clean the room, but they couldn't promise it would be right away. Finally at 12am I called and demanded to talk to a manager (who did not see any previous request to clean the room), sent a maid right away and refunded us one night's stay. When the maid arrived she seemed angry to be cleaning our room. Not until 1:30am on the night of our anniversary did we have a clean room... but we were too tired, dirty and enraged to enjoy an otherwise perfect day that was many months in planning. As for dining we ate away from the resort due to poor offerings In fact, the resort's most upscale offering (Palio) was CLOSED... on a Tuesday night when there was reportedly 98% occupancy! And SKIP the pina coladas that are just sugary store bought mix.Check out was a disaster as well. I received my statement the morning of checkout but there was NO record of the promised credit! I had to wait 45 minutes at 7am where 1 person was manning the front desk with 11 people in line. There were 5 people at the concierge desk with NO line but they claimed they could not help us because they weren't trained to do front desk work. Only after complaining did someone get a manager to help the front desk.There was no record of a refund even in the computer! LUCKILY the manager that promised the refund was working the front desk and gave me my credit... which finally posted 2 days after check out. Even with the refund and cheap rate, it was not worth the stay
