“Inconsistent, confusing, but overall pleasant”

  , Santa Rosa
I was confused during my stay by the staff - some members were stellar, friendly, helpful, efficient; other staff members were brusque, impolite to the point of rude, NOT helpful/avoiding, and inefficient. I felt the same way about the food at the Elephant & Castle "in house" restaurant. The onion soup was fantastic, the beer selection excellent, but the house made sandwiches were bland and the bread was just gross. Staff there were either very friendly and extremely helpful or they were defensive/borderline hostile initially (why???). My hotel room was comfortable and relatively clean (the hotel is beginning renovation), but the housekeeping in the bathroom was poor - our sink was dirty when we arrived with visible "crud" on the inside of the sink and we had to ask for replacement toilet paper rolls twice during our week long stay! (Only half a roll when we got there.) The bed was VERY comfortable, the shower/bath area well-kept with strong flow and good hot water, the internet connection strong and steady, television set up adequate with clear picture/sound, other fixtures fully functional. The South Tower service elevator is NOT clearly marked and many guests were turned off by it. Since it is the first elevator you come to when arriving from the front desk, it should be more clearly marked as as service elevator. The other elevators were cleaner, nicer, and the glass one has a terrific view of the harbor/sunset as you go up/down. I'd hate to think that people missed that view by not realizing these were the elevators they should use. The attached outside deli was closed, but the doors were open and staff were rude when people went in. (WHY? Lock the doors or put up a sign that you're closed.) The bar's doors were locked before they were actually closed for business and there were people inside being served and no sign anywhere to indicate what the business hours were. This hotel and its adjoining services are confusing and there are mixed messages from the services and the staff. The hotel has changed ownership in the recent past, so perhaps the transition is tough on staff. Regardless, that is no excuse for some of the negative behavior we received during our stay. Luckily, there were enough employees that were positive enough to balance our stay and my review.
