I spent hours researching NYC hotels, hoping to find one that was centrally located, safe for a business woman alone, priced right, with good reviews, and up to my standards for cleanliness and style. The Wyndham Garden Chinatown exceeded ALL my expectations. The hidden surprise: world-class service. I arrived at check-in haggard and stressed, having drudged in from the airport by bus and train with suitcases. The director of rooms, Omar Bouchaar, greeted me warmly. I said, somewhat coyly, "So, you're going to 'wow' me, right?" Omar's reaction sealed my impression of the hotel. With a twinkle in his eye and a friendly smile, he seemed genuinely intrigued by the challenge---and he rose to it. After a few minutes on his computer, Omar confided: "We ARE going to 'wow' you. I've moved you to my FAVORITE room with a view." On the 15th floor, I enjoyed a panoramic view of the Brooklyn Bridge, City Hall and the Empire State Building. The room was the perfect size for NYC, comfortable, nicely appointed and boasted a closet and desk (thank God). Not least important, it was immaculate. The hotel's exercise room had a handful of treadmills and machines, perfect for my needs, as well.Omar embodies fine hospitality, and his service is a big part of why I'll book here on my upcoming trips. He even picked up on my needs for 'hydration' and had extra water bottles sent up to my room. The rest of the staff was graciously accommodating, routing directions to all my business meetings by train and fetching taxis when needed. Special note to my fellow yogis: Check out the nearby Yoga High studio, just two blocks away on Forsyth and Grant. Fantastic instruction; another gem. In short: For a traveler who enjoys the diversity and a mix of bustling streets and quaint side streets, the Wyndham's location is ideal. Wind through Chinatown for trinkets and a taste of being in another world. Hop to Little Italy for cafe dining. Skip over to Soho for trendy restaurants and shopping. Loved it.Thank you, Omar, for going the extra mile. Consider me 'wowed.' :) « less
