“I've slept better at a Motel 6”

  , Roeland Park
Wildly uncomfortable beds! We had a Sleep Number bed (re: glorified air mattress) and a regular bed. Both were swathed in cheap, scratchy, uncomfortable sheets that bunched beneath us while we tried to sleep. Every single sound made in the hallway was heard loud and clear in our room. The room was small- ridiculously so- and cramped. The air in the hotel constantly felt drenched in humidity- it was so gross. In the evening the lobby outside the elevators smelled of dirty feet and wet dog. Elevator floors (marble? tile?) were constantly soaked and slippery from people leaving the pool.We were there for a family reunion and I was woefully unimpressed with the staff's attention (more accurately lack thereof) to the needs of the hospitality suite. On more than one occasion I saw this year's host emptying the trash herself. Bear in mind this woman is older, has a physical disability due to a disease, and needs to use a motorized scooter to get around because walking is quite painful for her. I'm not sure that the staff ever came in and vacuumed or made any attempt to clean the hospitality suite. My interaction with the front desk staff was pleasant, though the hotel staff seemed unsure of how to handle our family's complimentary breakfast and happy hour. The bartender during Friday night's (8/2/13) happy hour was fantastic and went out of his way to make sure our family was comfortable and taken care of. Breakfast: it was less than stellar. As we were leaving the restaurant my husband said, "That would have cost us almost $60!" The food was nowhere near that good. In fact, even though it was free at the hotel, we went out for breakfast the following morning. The indoor children's pool seemed cleaned and well maintained and all of our children (ages 4, 8, and 10) loved it. It didn't reek of chlorine like some indoor pools. I don't know if I should be concerned about that or grateful. Nonetheless, that area was one of the few impressive things about this hotel. The arcade: what a dirty rip off! I let my son waste a dollar on two different games before declaring we were done. The machines just ate his money. He didn't actually get to play anything. I was super bummed that the Omni Oasis Spa didn't actually exist. Overall, we were disappointed. I doubt seriously that any member of our family will return and my husband and I are not likely to consider a Wyndham property the next time we travel.
