“Locked in the Stairwell”

  , Tulsa
Front desk staff were not experienced enough to handle the number of guests in the hotel leading to many unhappy guests and very cranky staff. We had no trouble b/c they would respond nicely when treated nicely, but so many ppl were already mad about something they reacted in kind. The pool area was too small to handle the amount of children in there. When you looked in the pool from above all you could see were bodies, not water! I think the hotel sold too many coupons for corresponding times and with all the winter weather in the area a bunch of people came at once. Two of their elevators broke leaving one remaining for everyone on all 9 (or more, I forget how many) floors to use. Since many families with LOTS of luggage were all trying to check out on Sunday this was a problem. Especially since there was no stair access. We were on a top floor and rather than wait 10mins for the elevator to return to me, I chose to take the emergency stairs. It didn't say an alarm would sound, it only said it would exit to parking lot only. No problem, I could walk around bldg from parking lot and get to front desk faster, except when I got to bottom of 9 floors the exit door was stuck. It would not come open and I didn't want to push and shove on it for fear of setting of an alarm. So, thankfully I had my cell phone and called my husband to let me back on top floor after walking all the way back up. 30 mins later I arrived at front desk to check out to find a man inquiring about where stairs exited b/c his family was on them with no cell phone. They called security to open the door, and it's a good thing, b/c right after him a woman with several young children came reporting that they too were trapped in the stairwell w/no phone and she was reporting them to the fire dept b/c it scared her children so much. It could have been a good hotel--very clean and elegant looking. Bar restaurant had great food! Maybe we just went on a really bad, busy weekend.
