“No Service Decent Rooms”

  , Springfield, Illinois
After being a hotel manager for several years for a major brand I would have probably fired almost all of the employees I came in contact with. The check in was average with the front desk clerk barely acknowledging my existence. Once I was given a key they seem to expect I would understand to walk through the completely covered in plastic, under construction area that was the lobby. The room itself was acceptable except rather small televisions by most any brand standards. Room was clean, no odor and seemed to be in good care. None of the buttons on the phone worked when I tried to order room service. The food arrived in an acceptable time-frame and was good but nothing special (prices are expensive as they tend to be in many hotels). The room to room noise was not an issue but I think the windows must have been single pane at best because I was able to hear conversations of people standing out front from my 8th floor room. The bedding was good. I had to use the Internet several times and it was simply ok - the wireless signal was fine but the sign-in process was sloppy and the speed was slower then my mobile hotspot through Verizon at 3G. From the brands I usually stay at this is slow but usable. The main issue the Service or lack thereof, upon arriving on Wed night I was thirsty and looking for a juice or water so I went to the soda machine on every floor which was out of everything. I informed the front desk of such and they said ok they would let someone know - did not offer to get me something. After my convention ended on Sunday afternoon I got me a sandwich from the Reading Station and proceeded back to the hotel. Upon arrival I went to the 'what they are calling a restaurant' but is really a meeting room poorly transformed into one. I ask for some fries and they reluctantly got up from watching TV to go fix me some - fries ended up being good. Once again I did the floor to floor vending machine challenge and once again failed to gain a beverage. I then went to the desk to ask for a manager on duty and she appeared. I explained the whole situation and she said 'we have called them several times but there is not much we can do'. Guess what restaurant is now closed also - water from the sink once again. I did get a nice tip when waiting for my cab from the desk - there is a shuttle bus that will pick you up on the corner and take you around the area for $3 per person (great information for day 1). Will not stay next year!
