“A fantastic stay”

  , Minneapolis, Minnesota
We stayed here for our honeymoon and aside from a hiccup or two, the stay was first class. First the hiccup....I had it listed all over our reservation that this was a honeymoon and requested a newly renovated room (we reserved an Ocean View Room). Upon check-in the woman helping us was really the only damper on our stay. She seemed to rush us through the process and didn't really seem interested in us. She informed us that she didn't have a renovated room for us but did upgrade us to a junior suite Ocean View. She was polite but not friendly. We went up to the room and although it was classified as an "Ocean View" it was blocked by several trees so you really couldn't see the ocean at all. Long story short, we requested another room but they were sold out that night (Saturday), but they could switch us the following day, which they did. They gave us a newly renovated Ocean Front room with an absolutely amazing view. When we went back to the front desk, the person who switched us was Luis and he also made dinner arrangements for us at Iquana's and listed us as VIPs. So we received amazing service as well as comped appetizers and desserts. Like I said, it was a hiccup but Wyndham took this as an opportunity to delight us - which they did. The remainder of the stay was amazing. The staff was phenomenal! From the concierge to the bell hops to the wait staff to the pool people, all top notch! Many reviews say the food pricing is high, at that is true. If you're looking to save a little money, breakfast is where you can do this. Instead of paying $26 for the buffet, order off of the menu. You can get a complete and filling breakfast for $15, still a lot for breakfast, but a savings of $11 per person. The Italian restaurant wasn't very good and it was expensive. The Japanese place was actually relatively affordable at about $22 per person (depending of course your selection) and we enjoyed it. If you want to dine off site, there are a few locations nearby and at least two of them offer shuttle service to and from the hotel. Richies has an amazing view and the food is OK. Carabali has amazing food, but it's a casual setting - make sure you get the Skirt steak! We did golf on the Ocean View Course, but I would recommend the River course as the more scenic of the two as the Ocean View really only has the ocean on one hole (16). We loved the location and Old San Juan is only about 35 minutes away. We will definately stay here again!
