“First time at a Wyndham Hotel”

  , Kansas City
This was my first experience with a Wyndham hotel and I have to admit that I was not very impressed. Initially, I tried to make a reservation online because they offered a 20% discount if you stayed two nights. When I clicked on the button to book the room, the system gave me an error, so I called the hotel directly. They told me that no discounts applied, even when I explained that it was on their website, they disagreed. (Strike One) I arrived at the hotel and told my story to the person at the front desk. She really didn't care to discuss it and told me that the rate was the rate and there were no discounts available. It was late, so I checked in and went to my room. I reserved a poolside king room in hope that it would be a nice upgrade from a standard room. I was wrong! The room was dated and in need of a facelift. But it was fairly clean. Then I found a spider hanging from the wall above the door. (Strike two). When I went to the front desk to ask if they had any rooms that had been updated lately, they told me that all of the poolside rooms are the same. No apologies or empathy. Just a matter of fact response that I interpreted as "take it or leave it". Other than listening to the neighbors partying through the thin wall until 2 am, I slept OK, until the housekeeping people knocked on my door and woke me up at 8 am. (Strike 3). I'm used to staying at Holiday Inn, Hampton Inn or Marriot branded hotels. I expected Wyndham to live up to the same standards. I was wrong. I overpaid at $139 a night for a Super 8 experience. I won't be back. My advice is to spend a few more dollars for a Embassy Suites, Hilton or Marriot. You will be happy you did.
