“The overall experience of my sister and me with the Galvez...”

The overall experience of my sister and me with the Galvez was very good. Everything was virtually perfect -- except for our room assignments. I had made the reservation through the hotel for non refundable rooms. I requested two rooms together, one of which was to be a handicapped accommodations room. It was a Sunday night and the hotel appeared virtually empty both that night and the next day (Monday) at check out time. I made an advance phone call to the 800 number to say that although our rooms were prepaid, we were going to be to the hotel as late as 9 p.m. The 800 number representative wasn't cordial when I asked about getting 2 rooms together (for safety reasons for the party who uses a walker). The representative was reluctant to give me the local hotel, saying that the 800 number representative could do anything the local hotel could do. That proved to be a falsehood. When I got the local hotel, I was transferred to the front desk to a representative who assured me that my request for 2 rooms next to each other could be taken care of. When we arrived at about 9 p.m., we were given rooms such as 305 and 310, or similar rooms not near next to each other. When I requested what we had asked for, we were given rooms 619 and 620, on the top floor. 619 was not fully handicapped friendly, but it had a low level walk in shower, which was adequate, (and a perfect view out the front of the hotel to the gulf) and the other room (I may have the numbers reversed) was just fine for me because, although it was small, the next morning was sunny and the view out over residential Galveston was very pretty. I'm just surprised that at 9 p.m. we still couldn't have been given 2 rooms next to each other for safety reasons, even though that probably would have been an upgrade on one of the rooms. It was just for one night and for us an unusual situation. Also it seemed to take the front desk people to evaluate what they had and what was available. I have no idea what their computer screen actually showed them. Everything else that we experienced was virtually perfect, as it had been when I used a Wyndham in Fort Lauderdale back in July. Everyone was friendly and safe looking. The car people did a good job. My family once lived nearer to Galveston and used the Galvez often from the time it was built. We now live further away from Galveston but the Galvez is still our favorite. The refurbished main lobby is nice. Overall still an A.
