“the fungus among us”

  , Fairfax
I booked a stay at the Wyndham in Tulsa because family had stayed there in the past with their small children and stated what a fun time they had had at the indoor water park and close proximity to shopping and events in Tulsa/Broken Arrow. The hotel decor is outdated. When we entered our rooms, they smelled musty-like an old lady's house that has too many cats. When I adjusted the thermostat to increase the temperature of the room because we were all freezing-a smell of something burning started coming out of the air vents, so we turned the temp back down and dealt with 2 sub zero rooms. We immediately went down to the "water park" that I had heard so much about, only to find it more of a splash pad for toddlers. The water was green, lacked clarity. I have been a lifeguard in the past, so I know my water ph when I see it. This pool was not sanitary-but my family was allowed to swim anyway-because for $160 a night we were GOING TO GET OUR MONEY'S WORTH! Clean towels were scarce also were chairs for parents to sit in. After the children finished their swim and we enjoyed the hot tub, we went to eat in the hotel restaurant-Mulligans. Our bill that night topped $160 as well, and the food was disgusting. We went back to our rooms to get a restful night sleep only to toss and turn all night because the beds were like sleeping on bricks. We both had to take a pain reliever the next morning for sore backs. That morning while getting ready in the bathroom, I noticed toothpaste all over the bathroom wall. We then went down to the other hotel restaurant for what we thought was complimentary breakfast buffet, only to spend another $50 for soggy oatmeal and rubbery pancakes. We stayed another night after taking in some local attractions, visiting the "water park" again that evening. The pool was over-crowded, with large grown children playing in the the kid pool,rough-housing and knocking the smaller children around and keeping parents on their toes. We checked out Sat. morning and were relieved to arrive home to our comfy beds. On Tuesday I began experiencing severe pain in my right foot accompanied by extreme itching and a rash, with blisters between my toes. I am an RN, so having no clue what was wrong I asked one of the physicians I work with to look at my foot. To my horror-he said I had contracted a severe case of Athlete's Foot, which can only be traced back to the dirty pool area and bathrooms at the Wyndham.
