“Excellent service by staff, wonderfully calm and luxurious rooms”

Bellman, doorman, front desk staff, chambermaids, bar staff are the best: very professional, friendly, helpful. Rooms spacious, clean & comfortable. Management of food service in bar and for breakfast in restaurant on Sat. is awful. We ate in bar on 31 Mar. Hot meals offered in bar are served cold because barman/woman has to run down to kitchen to collect dishes that have apparently been waiting to be collected until barman/woman can leave customers at bar and make trip to kitchen. Easy fix would be a "runner" to take food as soon as it's plated to the bar. May cut into profit margin a bit, but would prevent outraging and disappointing customers with cold burgers, fries and crabcakes. Insulated covers over food could help keep food hot on the trip from kitchen to bar. Service for breakfast in restaurant extremely poor on Saturday morning (23 Mar). First waitress took coffee order and disappeared. 45 minutes later a second, rather surly, watress took coffee order again. Delivered it 15 minutes later along with food order, then ran off. Didn't check if everything okay. It wasn't. One of us tracked her down and asked for additional yogurt (portion very small: 2 or 3 tablespoons). She argued that that was the serving size. We offered to pay for extra. She still insisted we had a full serving. Only when we demanded a second order, did she comply. Throughout all this bad service and drama, the very friendly and nice hostess was busing tables rather than seeing how the customers were doing (you could use a busboy or two). We loved this hotel and its staff and make our criticisms as we would criticize a favorite child who had behaved badly! Solve the breakfast service problem and the cold food in the bar problem and you'll be 5 stars for us!
